Compressed-air dryers for hygroscopic resin

May 2004 - Plastics Machinery & Auxiliaries

ERD Xpert compressed-air dryers are said to be a cost-saving alternative to desiccant drying systems, with superior drying results, lower operating costs, and maintenance-free production.

The dryers use compressed air from the plant's air system for the drying process. When compressed air is expanded to atmospheric pressure, the dewpoint decreases to a low level. Subsequent heating of the process air reduces the relative humidity. This dry air is then passed through the material to drive moisture out of the resin and provide dry air for the molding process. The dryers were redesigned with new round hoppers in stainless steel, which provide better material flow then in the old square hoppers. The hoppers come in sizes of 15-, 26-, 60-, 93-, and 137-lb working capacity. The dryers feature a removable quick connection controll, 30% average energy savings over desiccant dryers, and dewpoints below -40F. The units are said to be maintenance free and work with all resins. Several dryers can be networked using remote operation. Sizes range from 2 to 80 lb/hr. The dryers multifunction control has a dewpoint display, precise temperature control, a flexible electronic structure, dry-time monitoring wiht or without temperature reduction, and an on-board modem for remote maitenance and software updates. Temerpature is automatically reduced when production stops.

FASTI launches new PC dryer

May 2004 - Media Tech Expo Magazine

FASTI is presenting its latest resin dryer, the ERD Xpert PC. This new system expands the company's range of ERD compressed air driers, and is designed to fit the growing demand for compact untis with continuous performance for the production of sensitive optical items including CDs and DVDs.

ERD Xpert has been developed and tuned for efficient drying of hygroscopic materials such as polycarbonate. As with all FASTI driers, it uses pre-dried compressed air from the customer's air system, which is expanded to atmospheric pressure. Thus the dew point sinks to a low level; subsequent heating of the process air reduces relative humidity.

Says FASTI's Christian Lintner, "Using a completely modular basic structure and our new Clip-on-Technology, the product design reflects the consequent separation of drying hopper and control module. Due to a quick connector the module can simply fixed or released within seconds and with onehand. The intelligent module is equipped with a modern easy to handle controller (MFC 3000) and a hopper recognition system which sets all drying parameters automatically after switching the module. This enabels fast and easy maintenance and handling.

The new multifunction controller is based on a flexible electronic structure, which according to FASTI means virtually no limits on individual requirements, with the assurance of convenient and efficient workflow. The drying system also includes a steady and automatic power and air consumption control (electronic) and standard interfaces such as RS 485, RS 232, TTY, Can-Bus for integration into all major machine types. FASTI is also showing a special dryer for clean room applications which is certified according to DIN EN ISO 5 (clean room level 100).

CD/DVD resin drier from FASTI

May 2004 - One to One, International Media Manufacturing Magazine

The latest CD/DVD resin drier from FASTI is the ERD Xpert PC. This new system expands the company's range of ERD compressed air driers.

As with all Fasti driers, the system uses pre-dried compressed air from the customers's air system, which is expanded to atmospheric pressure. THus the dew point sinks to a low level and subsequent heating of the process air reduces relative humidity.

By using a modular basic structure and a new Clip-on-Technology (see picture), the product desing reflects the separation of drying hopper and control module. This intelligent module is equipped with a modern easy-to-handle controller (MFC-3000) and a hopper recognition system, which sets all drying parameters automatically.

The new multifunction controller is based on a flexible electronic structure that, accoring to Fasti, means virtually no limits on individual requirements. The drying system also includes an automatic power and air consumption control, and standard interfaces such as RS 485, RS 232, TTY and Can-Bus.

Deluge of dryers at Fakuma

December 2003 - Modern Plastics International

Manufacturers of material dryers came out in force with new units at the popular German show in October. Ten years after introducing its small ERD Baby compressed air dryer, FASTI has developed its ERD Xpert with hopper sizes from 7 to 152 liters. These use dehumified air from a processor's compressed air system. When the air is expanded to atmospheric pressure, the dewpoint sinks as low as -65°C...

Micro dryer

December 2003 - European Plastic News

Fasti of Austria launched its ERD Micro dryer at Fakuma. It uses compressed air and has been designed to dry hygroscopic polymers used in the production of small parts. It uses the Fasti pilot-design that enables the drying hopper and the control module to be mounted separately on an injection moulding machine. The standard one to three litre drying hoppers are made out of double wall glass. The polymer to be dried is fed into the dryer with Fasti's own automatic venturi Airjet hopper loader.
